Improve Performance DSR Protocol by Application of Mobile Agent The Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) is gaining popularity especially for the applications where the installation of network infrastructure is not possible like military applications, disaster management and remote sensing. Although the MANET provides a great way of communicatinItem MIN : without network infrastructure but it imposes some drawbacks and limitations (mainly in route discovering and maintenance) which needed to be rectified. This thesis presents a mobile agent based technique to improve the performance of the DSR routing protocol using mobile agent. The dynamic source routing protocol (DSR) is a simple and efficient routing protocol designed specifically for use in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks of movable nodes. DSR permit the network to be completely self-organizing and self-configuring, without the need for any subsisting network infrastructure or governance. The protocol is together of the two mechanisms of route detection and route preserving, which work together to allow nodes to discover and maintain source routes to arbitrary destinations in the ad hoc network. The use of source routing permit packet routing to be important loop-free, avoids the need for up-to-date routing information. The mobile agent is basically a program which is initiated by the home machine and then it propagates through the network nodes and sends back the required information. The proposed technique is tested by simulating a mobile ad-hoc network using network simulator and the results shows that it enhances the performance of the network
